What Can I Expect in a Private Rehab?
Private rehab is a program that accepts private health insurance, which gives treatment clients more choices and opportunities than those who don't have private health insurance. Private health insurance can cover both a short or long term stay, depending on the individuals history of substance abuse and how long treatment counselors recommend that the individual remain in treatment. If an individual has private health insurance and wants to take part in a private rehab program, they can speak with their insurance carrier to determine what is and isn't covered. Many times, only a 30-day stay in a short term private rehab is covered unless treatment counselors intervene and recommend a long term stay. Once they do however, it is ordinarily not a problem. So individuals should take the long term option if at all possible, as this has been proven to provide significantly better outcomes.
What you can expect while in a private rehab all depends on which private rehab you have decided to take part in. There are traditional private rehabs such as programs which integrates the 12-steps into their treatment plan. Many people are familiar with 12-steps because it has been in use for decades and first started with groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. The Steps encourage the individual to recognize that they cannot control their compulsion to abuse drugs and alcohol, and that their recovery process is indefinite, i.e. once an addict, always an addict. This recovery process is continuous and part of the persons life for the rest of their life, and they continue to attend meetings and so forth as part of their continuing recovery process. While this can be helpful for some, there are treatment clients who would rather try an alternative option so that they can actually resolve their addiction and cure it. So for these clients, they can take advantage of the many alternative private rehab options available currently.
An alternative private rehab which doesn't use the traditional 12-step approach might be a program which utilizes behavioral therapy and other techniques to encourage individuals to make better decisions and choices in their life. After all, abuse of drugs and alcohol is a choice and is something that an individual can control. So unlike a 12-step private rehab, an alternative rehab would encourage that individual to take back the power that drugs and/or alcohol once had, and give the individual life tools so that they can make more healthy and proactive decisions in their life. Another example would be a program which applies a holistic philosophy, where the individual is treated as a whole including body, spirit and mind. These types of private rehabs may incorporate many different techniques and practices into an individuals treatment plan, to heal them from the inside out. A private rehab such as this would typically include a good balance of physical healing, and mental and spiritual healing as well utilizing innovative and proven counseling techniques and therapy.
